Places of Interest

Belur - the Chennakeshwara temple of the Hoysala period and still in use for religious ceremonies. Other temples are Chennigaraya and Viranarayana.
Halebid - outstanding example of Hoysala art. Construction of Hoysaleswara temple was never completed, but it epitomises the splendid archietecture of the Hoysala period. Kedareshwara temple and three smaller Jain bastis have fine carvings.
Shravanablagola -one of the oldest and most important Jain centres in India - it has the tallest monolethic statue (17 mtrs) in the world and is located on top of the bald rock of Vindhyagiri. The word~ Shravanablagola~ the monk of the white pond. hill
